Dibrugarh University is a premier institution of higher education with 'A' Grade of the NAAC. The University is the second oldest University in Assam, which was established as a State Affiliating University in 1965. It is located on the southern bank of mighty river Brahmaputra in the north-eastern part of India. It offers UG, PG and Research Degrees in the field of Humanities, Social Sciences, Science and Technology, Commerce and Management through 175 affiliated colleges, 17 Departments, 21 Centre for Studies and one constituent Engineering Institute at present. The organizing Department, the Department of Statistics, established in the year 1967, is well known for its research and teaching in Distribution Theory, Econometrics, Reliability, Statistical Quality Control and Statistical Inference. Recently the department has given emphasis on research in medical and health Statistics. The department has received financial assistance under FIST programme for the period 2004-2009 and assistance under UGC innovative programme to run a Post Graduate Diploma inm Statistical Techniques and Computation (PGDSTC) course for the period 2007-2012. The department was also recognised by the UGC under the Special Assistance Programme (SAP) from 2009. The department has -its own research journal of international repute "Assam Statistical Review" since, 1987.
